Taekwon-Do

The way of the hand and foot

Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art that incorporates many elements from other martial arts and has been practiced and developed for centuries. The form of Taekwon-Do that we know today was presented to the world on April 11, 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi. Taekwon-Do is made up of three terms. Tae means foot or foot techniques. Kwon means hand or hand techniques and Do is the philosophical path we follow when practicing this martial art. With a very strong focus on harmony between mind and body, Taekwon-Do is the perfect choice for anyone looking to grow and strengthen themselves both physically and mentally.

Taekwon-Do is something for everyone regardless of age, religion, gender, origin, etc. We learn to defend ourselves, make social contacts, we become fit, strong and more self-confident. We get to know and control ourselves better. Fun is also guaranteed as Taekwon-Do is very versatile. Among other things, we have patterns, self-defence, sparring, board destruction, show techniques (such as turns or jumps) and lots of strength exercises in the program!

The five tenets of Taekwon-Do

The principles on which Taekwon-Do is based are the most important thing that this martial arts teaches us and we should always protect them and strive to honor them. That means we follow them for life and everywhere we are, not just during training. We never stop being students, even masters learn something new every day. The Do is a lifelong journey that is different for every person.

Integrity

Taekwon-Do students must always try to do what is right and just. Being honest to yourself and with others is also a part of integrity.

Courtesy

Taekwon-Do students must respect everyone else, regardless of age, grading, etc.

Perseverance

Taekwon-Do students must be able to withstand situations that are physically and mentally challenging. Great achievements require a lot of patience and hard work.

Indomitable Spirit

Taekwon-Do students must be able to stand up after any kind of defeat.  No matter how many times we have to try something, we must not give up.

Selfcontrol

Taekwon-Do students must have control over their mind and body. This means to control not only the dangerous techinques and knowing when to use them, but also to have control over oneselves emotions when necessary.
